Hands down, some of the best wings I've ever had in my life. Includes the full wing with some awesome buffalo sauce. With that being said, it is a hole in the wall bar. Kind of smells like stale booze when you walk in. Bathrooms aren't the cleanest. Grungy people at the bar staring at you when you walk in. Staff isn't the most friendly, especially if they are busy because there is only usually one person working the front. If you don't mind sacrificing all that for some of the most incredible wings ever, then you'll love this place.

One of the greatest places for chicken wings in KC. A full wing with sauce tame enough for your Grandmother to try. Great services even during a lunch rush. Full bar available. Sunday brunch as well.

I've learned that any place which hangs a major form of transportation from its roof is alright with me. (Keep looking, you'll find it.) The Peanut offers delicious food along side refreshing beverages. I've known this place in both forms. For those of you who don't know the bar has been made over to better accommodate its ritzy location. Before this it was a sketchy hole in the wall offering a reprieve to the outcasts of Johnson County such as myself. Although I miss the dejected and dilapidated dining room, I enjoy having a spruced up version I don't mind showing my mother when she comes to town. From the menu this pub offers a better BLT than you will find in any bar (I've heard this form more than one person) the owner will go as far to hand deliver farm raised tomatoes to compliment the dishes cultivated by time and care. The chili is hearty, meaty and slow cooked with a hint of spice. One of my personal favorites is the chili dog, they grill a premium dog open face then slather on the chili. The piece de resistance here, beyond a doubt, are the wings. They are phenomenal! The monster wings in a light peppery batter are thrown into a frier, during which period I recommend grabbing a drink and relaxing a bit, the wings take about half an hour to fully cook. After wards tossed in a piping hot Frank's buffalo sauce and served with a true complimentary blue cheese dressing. The dressing is cool, well blended and with a hint of cilantro it will distract your taste buds from the prominent heat of the wings themselves. I've said it before and I will say it again, to keep me happy feed wings at least once weekly, and these are the wings I would choose over all others in the KC Metro area. A good note to heed is this: The bartenders themselves are better suited to wait on your needs if they know you will take care of theirs. If you are new to this scene I recommend coming early, and sitting in the dining room with a waitress until you develop a repertoire with the space

I have to agree with what Aimee wrote previously. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. It's very unassuming and kind of hidden in the strip mall. I doubt anyone would find this on accident. If I had, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have eaten here because the atmosphere isn't great. It's a typical bar dive. It was recommended to me by someone who grew up in the area and once he found out that I loved buffalo wings he said I had to stop by before I left. He said we should split a BLT and also split a dozen wings. It was a great call. I don't think I've ever ordered a BLT anywhere before. This one was really good and I could tell the lettuce and tomato was fresh. Bacon was perfect. The wings are huge and would definitely be one of the top 5 best buffalo wings that I've had. The sauce is tangy and spicy and the chicken was very well seasoned. They were paired with Peanut's homemade blue cheese which was a great compliment. Well worth the trip if you're in the area.

Holy cow! I've never seen such wings. Messy, HUGE, tasty!! Good service, too.

Im a big fan of this place. They have giant wings that are awesome! Only 1 flavor to choose from (buffalo) but they got it right. Staff is friendly and attentive. This is a great bar for watching the game or just having a few beers. One down side is that the menus are gross. They are just unlaminated pieces of paper and I always feel like I need to wash my hands after handling them. But I still love this place..

I tend to rank service above food so giving the place 4 stars. I stopped in here on my day off recently right before the happy hour crowd so service was a breeze. This place has a nice neighborhood bar feel... Think Cheers like. I'd heard a lot about the wings but what I've discovered is wings are a lot like BBQ ... Everyone has their own preferences. The wings were a good size but a little over cooked IMO so that meant they were a bit dry. They only come in one flavor, I tend to like mine hot but they were on the medium side in terms of heat scale. Still on the hunt for rock'n KC wings...

This location may be best known for its wings and BLTs, but it also offers daily lunch specials. I tried the Monday wrap special (buffalo chicken or chicken Caesar with chips) for $5.79, and a drink for $2.50. My order was delivered with a smile in about 13 minutes. The buffalo chicken wrap was packed with plenty of chicken, a tangy jalapeno ranch sauce, and other fresh ingredients. The homemade chips were crunchy, and very tasty, without being salty. The service was exemplary - cheerful, and attentive. The interior was nicely done, and clean, with several TVs, and background music.

Fantastic wings. Get 'Em naked and dip them in the all the sauces. They are so tasty just by themselves. They must come from some kind of freak-of-nature huge chicken. My teenage son and I shared a half dozen and we're both full when done.

Heard the wings were the best! Went to it and had the wings and they were okay. Kinda loud inside, but expected for a bar setting. Neat place would def go back however wings probably not my choice. Guess I'm more of a boneless chicken person!

I'm giving them a 5 star rating just on the wings alone ! They are the best ! I recently found the same kind at Minskys too, so if you haven't had them yet .. You can try them at both places and decide which are best ..they are even good cold!

After coming here a couple of times in the past and having bad experiences, I cringed when my friends wanted to meet here. However, since the three other people in our party seemed OK with it, I decided "beer/bar food is beer/bar food," so I sucked it up and met them at The Peanut. One complaint is the noise; the place has high ceilings and is basically just one big cube, and it is usually busy, so I always have to talk louder than my natural voice to be heard. Next, I am always disappointed when servers don't know the product. My seat was right by the door with my back to the bar, and when I got there, the server was immediately asking me what I wanted to drink. I asked what was on tap and received a response of about six beers, one of which she said was "Boulevard SANson Brett." Of course that is what I wanted, and about five minutes later she came back to tell me they did not have "SANson Brett" after all. In the meantime, my friends told me she did not name nearly all the tap beers because there was a board over the bar with the complete list . . .probably a good 15-20 beers; thanks for naming six, server. While I understand she was young and had good intentions, really, Peanut, your staff should be better schooled on what you have and how to pronounce it. Nothing on the menu looked outstandingly delish, so I just ordered a turkey sandwich on rye with swiss and cream cheese. It was rather small and the side was house chips; this is a restaurant's way to make you pay an extra $1.50-$2 to up it to fries. I stuck with the chips, and I ended up not eating most of them, as they were somewhat overdone. The combo was $9, by the way, and this was one of the inexpensive sandwiches. My friends ordered BLTs which were also just "meh"-looking. I thought the sandwich/chips for what it was was overpriced. The beer, though, was fairly priced. I did not leave feeling as if I had been stuck for going out in SoJoCo. The other thing that pleasantly surprised me was the crowd. I guess only on weekends is it sparkly jeans and v-neck t-shirts and the middle-aged crowd. This group was mainly 30s-60s with some families with well-behaved kids, and I rather enjoyed it. So, I will return to The Peanut, primarily for beer, and definitely during the week.

When it comes to chicken wings I usually like choices...Boneless or traditional...Hot or sweet sauces...ranch or blue cheese. But sometimes when a place knows they have completely mastered a certain dish, there are no need for choices. The Peanut has mastered the chicken wing! First off they start with a full-sized traditional wing. In my opinion this should be the standard everywhere. Next step they use a magical marinade that adds loads of flavor. Then they fry these bad boys to a perfect crisp and finally give them a bath in their homemade hot sauce. Now the sauce is a key component in the pleasure of eating these wings. I like my sauces spicy and this one is a perfect medium hot with a little parmesan cheese and cracked pepper. This is truly a sauce that I could eat gallons of and never get tried of tasting it! Now pair these wings with a little blue cheese dressing and some great French fries and you have yourself one of the best meals around! The Peanut is all about those wings! My one request to the owners/managers of this location: You need a better craft beer selection! Yes you have every Boulevard available but in all honesty there are a bunch of great breweries in KS and MO that should get some tap space as well. Talk to your counterparts at the Santa Fe location, as they have great beers on tap. Cheers!

I have lived away from Kansas for over 4 years now and still have to say these are the best wings I have ever had. Every time I go back to KC I have to get my Peanut wings in. They BLT is also delicious.

can never get enough of their wings! Their BLT is amazing as well. This is our go to restaurant! For once, a place that pleases both of us! The peanut definitely deserves much credit!

Great wings! Great BLT! Great Rueben! Tracy did a great job taking care of our table of nine even though it was a very busy night when we arrived. You need to know that it's best not to be in a hurry when you go, but just relax and enjoy the food!

Everything about this restaurant was stellar. Our server, Tracy, could not have been nicer. She was both attentive & fantastic with the kids. Everyone at our table ordered different meals, and they were all delicious. Great prices and many different options on the menu. Their famous chicken wings take quite a while to cook, so we ordered them at the same time as our meal- just so we could try them before we left. They are AWESOME. The flavor of the sauce is almost identical to Wing Stop (found mostly in the Dallas, TX area). The sauce is reddish-orange and not what I would describe as "peppery". It's more like a medium flavored buffalo wing sauce. Overall, the place is on the small side, bordering on a "dive" type atmosphere with lots of televisions and beer. I would not get here at prime dinner time if you want to eat the moment you walk in the door (especially if you have a large group), but they are very accommodating and will pull a couple of tables together if you need to. We would not hesitate to come back.

I visited The Peanut one Sunday evening for the music trivia bingo game. I enjoyed decor and found myself getting lost in the historic photos and various sporting/hunting items that were displayed in the restaurant. The store was nice and clean (including the restroom). My server Kelsi was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. I enjoyed an appetizer of Chili-cheese-fries. They were very nice and they were a huge portion. I almost got the large size, but I was warned against it by my sharp thinking waitress. I had a really good evening out with some friends and I think I will be back here again soon.

I went to The Peanut for lunch on a weekday to try the BLT that I had been told about by a friend. The server was friendly and served us well, but they probably could have used one more person to help out, as they were literally running from place to place. The BLT was really good. The thick fresh tasting potato chips were a pleasant surprise (think tato skins, only fresh), as I was expecting chips out of a bag, and I personally like this style. The atmosphere was about what I expected. No surprises in the prices. I will be back to try the wings. Update: I was back to try the wings, and the flavor was amazing. I only wish I had had more then the three I ordered

"Get one to go and they will all go." In other words, if one sheep will move then the entire flock will follow. Hate to be that guy, but after two visits to the Peanut on 127th Metcalf, I refuse to fall in line. Straight up, I've had better wings at Buffalo Wild Wings (among a few other places as well). I've had a better BLT at the Cheesecake Factory. Maybe I've stopped at this particular Peanut at the wrong time on the wrong day. Maybe? The next time I attend a concert at the Sprint Center my plans are to possibly try out the Peanut on Main. Not likely, but possible. Here's the deal; On both occasions, these over-sized and "Worlds Greatest Wings" have been nothing more than overcooked skin and bone. What little meat I could gnaw off the bone was tough and over-cooked. Maybe it's just me, but the fact the wings are drowned in buffalo sauce harkens back memories of certain BBQ joints around town that drench their BBQ in sauce to cover up a bad product. For heaven's sake, I'd hate for the Peanut to add a couple flavors/sauce coating varieties to their already enormous menu. No way, that may just put the kitchen staff too far behind in their already 20-25 minute incursion of preparing these succulent chicken wings. Give me a freaking break. So disappointed once again..........I'm not done! Take a look at the photo of the fries I submitted...............Do you see it? Those things were fried to smithereens as well. On top of that, how in the hell could those french fries be cold when they hit our table? Not done.........The real kicker is that the french fries were cooked in old dirty grease used to deep fry some other animal product. Trust me on this. We all know that weird flavor of having a product deep fried in grease that is old and used previously to fry something else. Thus, your food taste nothing like it should. Actually, it will taste like an odd mixture of two or three different items. Yes, this is long winded explanation because I have no other way of stressing my frustration. All the reviews suckered me into the Peanut twice. I take no responsibility what-so-ever. It's everyone else's fault;). BLT: REALLY? Here's a tip.......Go to your local breadsmith and purchase a loaf of wheat bread. Run down the street to the supermarket.......hell, better yet go over to McGonigles and get some fresh cut bacon. Grab you some veggies. Run home and you will experience a far greater experience consuming a Bacon Lettuce Tomato sandwich. Half the cost and you may even have enough to make a few more. Do you guys really want me to tell you the side you get with the $8 BLT?......... Long story short; Terrible experience. Terrible Wings. Meh BLT. BLT side option is criminal. Service not bad. $35 bill = I'm an idiot!#^%#! "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"

Went there with my son and my boyfriend. Yes, the wings looked good, wasn't in the mood for spicy food so I didn't order any, I wish I would have. My son and boyfriend got the blt with extra bacon. They were not impressed with the shredded cheese on it (really, wth?), I got the rueben and it was gross. I'm a huge rueben fan and they didn't do it any justice. I think the wings would have been good. Our bill was almost $60 with tip. We ordered chips and salsa, 2 blts, 2 cocktails, 1 ruben and 1 regular drink. I don't think the price tag was worth what we got. Again, the wings looked awesome and that's what everyone was eating, wish I would have went with that.

Great weekend lunch spot. Best BLT i've had to date (top 50 dish in kc), and wings are a must try. All else, seems standard.

The only reason I give 4 stars and not 5 is because I have not had a chance to try much of the food, aside from picking off the plates from people around me if they're full and offer it to the rest of us. (For the record though, when I have, it has been pretty tasty, nothing to write home about- typical pub-esque food but done right.) However, this bar often has really great specials, the service is always friendly, and my favorite part is that they have a BINGO night on Sundays, which is tons of fun if you have a group that wants to do something fun on a Sunday night. Also, the crowd always seems to be a pretty laid-back, friendly assortment of people. Overall, I've never had a bad time at The Peanut!

Came for the famous wings - was NOT disappointed. So excellent. I ordered them naked (sauce on the side) and was glad I did. I'm not a huge fan of traditional buffalo style sauce - more prefer bbq. But I did like mixing their sauce with ranch - I like to be able to control the amount and ordering this way worked well (Blue cheese also an option.) I've thought of them often since I ate there 2 weeks ago. Will I be returning when visiting KC? Yes. Yes, I will.

I have not been to the Peanut in 12 years; you read that right 12 long years! The restaurant has been upgraded with newer everything. The food is the same as I remembered....awesome! We ordered 6 wings with blue cheese and the portabella sandwich. Yummy! The wings were perfect with the right amount of pepper in the batter and the hot wing sauce was great. The blue cheese dipping sauce is amazing. The portabella is the very moist with cream cheese, red onions and bell peppers. I would skip the fries, they are just average. Hopefully I will return before another 12 years go by.

If you're going to go to the Peanut, go for the wings. Like many other reviewers on here have stated - they are fantastic, and they're actually chicken wings, not the tiny little drummies you get everywhere else. The BLT is pretty decent as well, but if you've never been the Peanut and love wings - go there now. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it's been slightly upgraded from the dive it used to be. Luckily the wing recipe hasn't changed. Positives: -Best wings ever. Seriously. -Laid back, casual dive bar atmosphere. Watched the last Superbowl here and had a blast -Decent drink specials - $6.50 PBR pitchers! Negatives: -Small place, but I don't think we've ever not found a place to sit. -Food can take awhile, but just enjoy a beer or two while you're waiting. Don't expect multiple sauce choices (there's only one) or a huge beer menu, but the Peanut is absolutely perfect for what it is: a slightly-divey, awesome neighborhood bar that has the best wings I've ever had.

I LOVE the wings here! Here's what you need to know: 1. They only have 1 sauce. Compared to Buffalo WW sauce, it is thinner/not as creamy, and is more peppery. I really like it! 2. Each buffalo wing has both the drumstick and "wing", so getting a dozen of these is literally 2 dozen of the BWW version. The Peanut also has larger wings, so it ends up being about 130% more food per "wing" than BWW. I usually eat 18 from BWW, and 7 from the Peanut fills me up! I honestly haven't eaten anything else here, so I can only comment on the wings. The staff has always seemed friendly when I spoke with them. I usually get take-out, but I like the atmosphere inside (127th and Metcalf location).

Just came here for drinks. Our drinks were okay..it wasn't the most memorable bar in the world. They had a cool new music station where you could request songs! We paid for a few songs..they play a lot of country.

Great little place, good atmosphere. I am so hooked to their BLTs (must get the egg on it!) that I have yet to branch out and try the wings, though it is definitely on my to-do list. Glasses are icy cold, options for draft beers are pretty limited though. I have had good service, and absolutely terrible service in the many times ive been here, but the food is good enough to continue to bring me back.

Been here twice. Had the wings both times(was hoping the first time was just a bad batch). I don't see what the hype is. Granted they are whole wings, but other than that, there is nothing to rave about. The sauce was lacking and the wings were overcooked and heavily peppered. They were pretty huge, but whats the point if I have to work to get the meat off? I prefer nice juicy hot wings

  • Reed N.

You know what? Wings. That's what. Black pepper infused Buffalo sauce done to perfection. Whole wings [so a dozen is actually 24 pieces]. Great bar hops. Decent drinks and atmosphere. Can't say much for the burger, but stick to the wings and you will not be disappointed. : )

Well the wing are massive, get a half dozen and its all you can ear. Outstanding! The double Decker Blt OS also fantastic... I get beer on the bottle, its one of those places that the tap beer is not quite cold enough for me. The service when I have been there has been outstanding...

Had been wanting to try The Peanut for a while based on the reviews by basketball reporter Jason King and finally made it there today to meet a friend from home in Texas. The Peanut did not disappoint. The wings were phenomenal, best I've ever had by far. Big, juicy, crispy, great sauce and flavor. Fries were great, too. Also, $3 Boulevard Wheat drafts on Mondays (hard to find that price even in Lawrence sometimes) capped it all off. Wasn't much sports on at the time, but plenty of TVs to watch a big game when one is one, bet it's a great sports environment. I'll be back at The Peanut as soon as I can!

Nice little neighborhood bar on 127th. Since the original owner sold to Tanners and they were able to remodel this place, it's really gone through a transformation. The chairs no longer all have ripped fabric, there are a row of booths on one wall and they replaced the concrete floor with carpet. Not to mention the abundance of flat screens. Still the same great Peanut food and service though. Very strong drinks too I might add, a good thing.

I visited here last night and it is your typical bar and grill. I love wings and went there because of its reputation. Another in my party ordered a burger and it was a burger. Nothing special. The wings are good. I thought the flavor was solid with the right amount of heat. They don't offer you a choice so the heat is what it is. They were cooked perfectly. I just like smaller wings. They bring out the whole wing instead of having it cut in 1/2 like most place. A bigger wings most likely lets you have a juicier wing and will be less prone to over cooking. But like cracking open blue crabs, they are a pain to eat (and messy). The fries were average. It is certainly not a terrible experience by any means. I just don't see a reason to make it a regular stop. If you are a wings fan, you should definitely go. I would like to go back and try the BLT.

What??? No one has reviewed this fine establishment?? Color me stunned! For reals. So my friend who is from the area introduced me to the peanut when I was visiting one time. We went to one downtown - but I don't know the address so I ain't reviewing it! I have been to this one several times so here goes nothing. It is disgusting and divey and fabulous and wonderful and I wouldn't change a thing. I took some girlfriends here for lunch labor day weekend. They were horrified - well one was - the other one actively enjoyed the greasy menu and the dark interior. When I said this was the fancy one friend #1 was even more horrified. They have the best BLTs ever. Their wings are hot and spicy and huge! Decent beer selection. Really, it is your basic dive bar with great food. There are times when you don't want to dress up, want to worry about where your shoes are going, and don't care if you haven't washed or combed your hair for a week - and that is when you go to the peanut. DO IT!! DELICIOUS. okaybye.

I'm giving them a 5 star rating just on the wings alone ! They are the best ! I recently found the same kind at Minskys too, so if you haven't had them yet .. You can try them at both places and decide which are best ..they are even good cold!

Disappointed in beer quality and food. Definitely an older crowd lets-meet-after-golf bar.

DO IT!! DELICIOUS. okaybye.
